American Arab Friends of Nazareth Honor Hanan Munayyer
At their biannual convention held at the Paris Hotel in Las
Vegas between April 27 and 29, 2012., NV,
The American-Arab Friends of Nazareth, a U.S. cultural and philanthropic
social organization, have honored Mrs. Hanan Munayyer author of "Traditional Palestinian Costume: Origins and
Evolution".
On Saturday,
April 28, Hanan was the guest speaker at the
convention, which was attended by over 500 people from across
the country.
Mrs. Munayyer presented her research on the cultural and
historical significance of contributions from the Arab
world, including an extensive and up-to-date study
of the origins of Palestinian embroidery and costume, from
antiquity
to medieval Arab textile arts, to modern day. The lecture
was attended by a large crowed many of whom were standing by
the door due to lack of space. After the question and answer
session, Mrs. Munayyer autographed her book eagerly. On Sunday, April 29 and in the presence of
about 400 participants, Ms. Lily Karam representing the
Friends of Nazareth presented Mrs. Hanan Munayyer with the Group's
Cultural Award.
The Honorable Ramez Jaraysi, Mayor of Nazareth who attended
the lecture was fascinated with the presentation and
requested to schedule a
lecture for Nazareth under the auspices of the Mayor. This
lecture is scheduled for June 6, 2012.

Palestinian Heritage
Foundation Celebrates 25th Anniversary
On Sunday, May 6, 2012 the Palestinian Heritage Foundation
celebrated its 25th anniversary at a Gala held at the Newark
Airport Marriott Hotel.
For
its founders, Farah and Hanan Munayyer, it was a very
special moment, as they shared this celebration with all the
audience who have so faithfully supported this Foundation
throughout all these years.
The program was rich with
distinguished speakers and friends who came from near and
far to celebrate this occasion
with the Munayyers, and who shared their thoughts
about the Foundation with those present.
The
evening program included a unique
music segment performance by the renowned Dr. Simon Shahin,
and the talented singer Ms. Nidal Ibourk in a duet
performance, and a beautiful art exhibit
by artists Jihan Tannous, Ghada Mitwasi, and Mona Hishmeh.
Also, Michel Moushabeck, Founder and President of Interlink Books, and
the publisher of our book “Traditional Palestinian Costume:
Origins and Evolution” received the Foundation’s
Achievement Award. Throughout the evening, the book “Traditional Palestinian Costume:
Origins and Evolution”, was available for for sale.
In addition the Foundation ran
a silent auction for a large one-of-a-kind embroidered wall-hanging, inspired
by traditional Palestinian embroidery, designed by Farah Munayyer and embroidered by Palestinian women in the refugee
camps of Ein il Hilweh and Miyyeh wu Miyyeh in Lebanon. This
special embroidered textile is a labor of love that took
four years to complete, including two full years of work by
four Palestinian women embroiderers. The winners of the the
wall hanging were Sabri and Ann Mackoul of Princeton, New
Jersey.
The

Metropolitan of All North America,
Dr. Clovis Maksoud,
Director of the Center for the Global South at the American
University in Washington DC, and former ambassador of the
League of Arab States to the United Nations,

Hanna, Archbishop of Sebastia, Palestine, His Excellency Dr. Bashar
Ja’fari ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the
United Nation, His Excellency Nawwaf Salam,
ambassador of the State of Lebanon to the United Nation and
Mrs. Salam,
Dr. John Mahoney,
Executive Director of Americans for Middle East
Understanding and Mrs. Mahoney,
Mr. Warren David,
National President of ADC, and Mrs. Amal David,
Mr. Michel Moushabeck,
President of Interlink Publishing and Mrs. Hildi
Moushabeck. Also present was
Dr. Bassam Hasan, President of the Arab American
Medical Association-NJ Chapter. Representatives of the Holy
Land Fund, Ramallah Federation and the Arab American Medical
Association were also present.

Hanan to Speak at Jerusalem YWCA, Haifa and Nazareth
Author Hanan Karaman Munayyer will be the guest speaker at
three different events while on a visit to the homeland during May and June, 2012. The first talk will commence on May 25 in
Haifa to be followed by the YWCA, in East Jerusalem on June 2, and finally in
Nazareth on June 6, 2012.
